After joining Clorox in January of 2019, Stacey Grier’s status as its first female CMO meant the ad trades wanted her take on industry-wide issues, such as Clorox’s decision to join the Facebook advertising ban.
But then COVID-19 hit, and reporters nationwide were asking the company about its inability to keep up with the six-fold increase in demand for many of its products. And while scarce supplies of toilet paper rebounded, stocks of Glad trash bags and liquid bleach were just returning to normal in the fall.
Not making her job any easier was President Trump saying people should either drink or inject Clorox to fight the virus, which prompted a quick response pleading with people not to ingest their products.
