Want a reduction in prescription drug prices? Then you’ll have to go through seven-term Republican senator from Iowa, Chuck Grassley. You’ll have to do the same if you plan on expanding access to healthcare, changes to Medicare and Medicaid and reforms to other social services.
Grassley wields extensive power over the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries through his role as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, which authorizes expenses representing a majority of the federal budget. Not surprisingly, Grassley has had a busy year.
He also floated his own sweeping drug-pricing bill this summer, pitching it to drug executives as an alternative to proposals created by either President Donald Trump or Democrats in the House of Representatives.
