Kevin Griffis stepped into a tough job — and he did so at a time when Planned Parenthood found itself under fire as it never had before.

He has led comms for the embattled women’s health provider during the Trump era, which has included more than its share of existential threats — budget bills that threatened to slash the organization’s federal funding and failed attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act top among them.

Griffis oversees the full spectrum of Planned Parenthood’s comms, including political and constituency messaging and health media. “Increasing the number of people who have access to healthcare has always been important to me. It’s a basic right,” Griffis told PRWeek in January.

This is not a new mission for him. Before joining Planned Parenthood, Griffis worked for the Obama administration in the Department of Health and Human Services. There, he handled communications and response around the ACA as well as outbreaks of the Ebola and Zika viruses. Prior to that, Griffis worked in public affairs at the Department of Commerce.
