EVP, chief digital and technology officer, Pfizer
Think you’ve got a big job? Lidia Fonseca’s role at Pfizer tasks her with setting and overseeing digital strategy for the venerable 170-year-old drugmaker. Recent successes include the identification of digital tools to help employees work more efficiently and to encourage collaboration among the company’s thousands of scientists. “My job is to bring the art of the possible in digital,” Fonseca told Fast Company in April.
Fonseca’s team was charged with leading Pfizer’s move to virtual work back in March, a shift that saw nearly 90,000 employees relocate amid an emerging pandemic. She also led the development of a cloud service that allows Pfizer researchers to break down silos of data and share breakthroughs with its pharma partners.
Fonseca saw the potential in data and digital business practices early on in her career, as she earned a master’s degree in business informatics. Since then, she has dedicated her career to making healthcare companies more digital.
Before joining Pfizer in 2019, Fonseca served as CIO for LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics. Prior to that, she led marketing at Philips Healthcare.
